Full week of programs brings Milwaukee youth to the Valley

In February 2019, more than one hundred middle and high school students came to the Menomonee River Valley as part of Menomonee Valley Partners’ Career Discovery Initiative. MVP’s Career Discovery Initiative partners with Valley companies and local schools to help youth connect what they are learning in the classroom to potential careers nearby.

Engineering Days

On February 21, 42 students from various middle schools had the opportunity to learn about engineering careers with Valley professionals at Automation Arts. Employees from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, Stamm Technologies, and Automation Arts spoke with students about paths to working in the engineering field as well as providing hands-on experience with engineering.

On Wednesday, February 27, more than 30 students from Carmen High School of Science and Technology toured the WE Energies Power Plant as well as Taylor Dynamometer. They heard from current technicians and engineers on careers in the field and were able to ask questions about a regular day or how employees ended up in that discipline.

Young Women in STEM

On February 26, Rexnord hosted MVP’s most recent Young Women in STEM event. Twenty-three young female students from area high schools were paired with women currently working in STEM fields to hear about challenges, opportunities, and advice on careers where women are traditionally underrepresented. This recurring event provides the chance to connect and seek out mentorship as young women consider future careers.
