TRANSPORTATION PROJECTS AROUND THE VALLEY

Menomonee Valley Partners (MVP) collaborates with the City of Milwaukee, State of Wisconsin, and others to accomplish shared goals for a revitalized, sustainable Menomonee River Valley for the benefit of the greater Milwaukee area.

MVP is currently working to ensure that transportation projects being implemented by the City and State do well to foster and strengthen links between adjacent communities and the Valley’s employment opportunities, recreation destinations, restored natural resources, and environmental education.

I-94 EAST-WEST

After years of study and public outreach, the Interstate 94 (I-94) East-West project is moving forward: final design is underway and construction has begun.

The project covers approximately 3.5 miles of I-94 corridor between 70th and 16th Streets in Milwaukee County and includes the Stadium Interchange and five local/service interchanges. Visit the project website to sign up for regular email updates, see project visualizations and a corridor flyover, see real-time traveler information, and more.

UPCOMING CLOSURE:

Southbound 175 Frederick Miller Way Exit

The Frederick Miller Way exit from southbound WIS 175 will be closed for 30 days starting November 3, 2025.

Drivers travelling on I-94 should use the recommended detour route to access Canal Street:

DETOUR ROUTE

Interstate users are encouraged to get around the closure by using 35th Street southbound to access westbound National Avenue and northbound Brewers Boulevard before exiting at Canal Street.

Visit the I-94 East-West Construction webpage or see WisDOT’s October 2025 Project Update for additional information.

I-94 LID AT 26TH & ST. PAUL

The I-94 East-West project includes a proposed lid (a very wide bridge) over the interstate at 26th Street and St. Paul Avenue - a critical connection point between residential and commercial zones in the Near West Side and significant economic and recreational destinations in the Valley.

In October 2025, MVP and Near West Side Partners (NWSP) hosted focus groups and a design charrette in partnership with the City of Milwaukee and Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) and with professional support from HGA.

Event attendees shared their needs, interests, and priorities in relation to the proposed lid, which would be the first structure of its kind in the state. Participants expressed a strong desire to improve the intersection’s accessibility, safety, and aesthetics with features like green infrastructure or plantings and comfortable pedestrian and bicycle features.

Attendees’ input will be incorporated into design concepts to improve the proposed lid, so it may strengthen the tie between the residents and visitors, businesses and workers, organizations and destinations on each side of the interstate.
